Sultanate Council Confirms Crescent Sighting
The Sultanate Council received credible moon sighting reports from various parts of Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by Sambo Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, officials carefully examined each report. The council then authenticated the findings before making a final decision.
As a result, the Sultan formally declared the commencement of Ramadan 1447AH.
He made the announcement through the Shehu of Borno, Shehu Abubakar Ibn Garbai El-Kanemi, who represented him.
Consequently, Muslims across Nigeria have begun fasting in obedience to Islamic teachings.
Significance of Ramadan 2026 in Nigeria
Ramadan remains one of the five pillars of Islam. During this period, Muslims observe daily fasting from dawn to sunset.
In addition, believers increase acts of charity, prayer, and spiritual reflection. The month also strengthens unity among Muslim communities nationwide.
Therefore, Ramadan 2026 in Nigeria marks a significant spiritual season for millions of faithful.
Christians Begin Lenten Season
Meanwhile, Christians across the country have also commenced the Lenten season. Catholic faithful are observing Ash Wednesday today.
Lent is a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and repentance. It prepares Christians for Easter celebrations.
