Nigeria Must Invest in Women for National Growth – Tinubu
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, on Sunday, March 8, 2026, called for stronger commitment to women’s empowerment while marking International Women’s Day 2026 in Nigeria, urging government, institutions and citizens to expand opportunities for women and girls to drive national development.
Women’s Strength and Contributions Celebrated
Mrs. Tinubu joined millions worldwide to celebrate the resilience and achievements of women.
She praised women for building families, sustaining communities and supporting economic growth despite challenges.
“Today, on International Women’s Day 2026, I join Nigerians and the global community in celebrating women and girls,” she said.
She highlighted their strength, courage, and determination across different sectors.
Empowering Women Drives National Development
The First Lady stressed that empowering women remains essential to Nigeria’s development.
According to her, Nigeria cannot achieve its full development goals without women’s active participation.
“When women rise, Nigeria rises,” she declared.
She therefore urged Nigerians to reflect on the importance of supporting women and girls.
Equal Opportunities Must Be Expanded
Mrs. Tinubu called for greater investment in education, healthcare and economic empowerment for women.
She explained that these opportunities would strengthen families and communities.
“Empowering women is not an act of charity. It is an investment in our collective future,” she said.
Furthermore, she urged leaders to expand women’s access to leadership roles, justice and economic opportunities.
International Women’s Day Theme Highlights Urgency
Mrs. Tinubu also referenced this year’s theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”
According to her, the theme reminds societies to accelerate gender equality efforts.
She noted that nations that prioritize women’s advancement often record stronger economies and stable communities.
Therefore, she urged stakeholders to take deliberate steps to remove barriers facing women.
Women’s Progress Strengthens Nigeria
The First Lady emphasized that women’s empowerment improves household welfare and national prosperity.
She added that inclusive governance becomes easier when women participate fully in national life.
Mrs. Tinubu concluded that Nigeria must continue to support policies that promote equality and opportunity for women.
