INEC urges issue-based campaigns in Osun

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned political parties and candidates in Osun State to avoid hate speech and violent rhetoric as campaigns begin for the August 15 election. The warning came on Tuesday in Osogbo, when the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, spoke through the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Olurode, urging parties to focus on issue-based campaigns that will help voters make informed decisions.

Electoral commissioner stresses compliance with electoral laws

Dr. Agboke emphasised that all political activities must comply strictly with the Electoral Act 2026 and INEC regulations guiding political parties.

According to him, campaigns should promote ideas and policies rather than insults or inflammatory remarks.

He warned that abusive language, hate speech, and actions capable of disrupting public peace will not be tolerated during the campaign period.

INEC calls for collaboration to ensure peaceful campaigns

Furthermore, the commission urged stakeholders to support efforts to maintain peace throughout the campaign season.

Dr. Agboke called on security agencies, civil society organisations, media houses, and the general public to work together.

He explained that collaboration among stakeholders will help create a peaceful and orderly campaign environment across the state.

Commission promises credible and transparent election

Meanwhile, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible electoral process.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner assured residents that the commission will work with all stakeholders to ensure a conducive atmosphere for political activities.

He also pledged that INEC will deliver a transparent, credible, and violence-free election in Osun State on August 15.
