Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has applauded Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Tinubu announced the nomination in Abuja in line with Section 8(1) of the CBN Act 2007. The appointment requires confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. Yahaya praised the decision, noting that Yuguda’s experience in finance and regulation makes him suitable for the role.
Governor Yahaya Commends Tinubu’s Decision
Governor Yahaya described the nomination as well deserved and a source of pride for Gombe people.
He thanked President Tinubu for recognising Yuguda’s competence and integrity. According to the governor, the nomination reflects confidence in Yuguda’s expertise in managing complex financial systems.
Furthermore, Yahaya urged the nominee to uphold professionalism while serving the country.
Yuguda’s Experience in Nigeria’s Financial Sector
Yuguda brings more than three decades of experience in banking, finance and investment management.
He previously served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). During his tenure, he strengthened regulatory oversight and promoted transparency in Nigeria’s capital market.
In addition, he worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and several key financial institutions. These roles helped him build strong expertise in economic policy and financial regulation.
Role in Gombe’s Transition Committee
Before this nomination, Yuguda served on Governor Yahaya’s 2019 Pre-Inauguration Transition Committee.
He chaired the Sectoral Committee on Finance and Economic Development. His contributions supported policy planning for the state government.
Consequently, Yahaya said the new appointment reflects Yuguda’s professional track record and leadership ability.
Gombe Government Pledges Support
Governor Yahaya congratulated Yuguda on behalf of the government and people of Gombe State.
He also assured him of their goodwill and support as he prepares for the national assignment.
According to the governor, Yuguda’s appointment will bring honor to both Gombe State and Nigeria.
