Ngoshe Attack: Defence Minister Assures Nigerians of Victory Over Terrorists

By Elizabeth Ugbo

On March 3, armed fighters attacked Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State. The insurgents overran a military base, burned homes, and abducted hundreds, including women and children. Security forces are responding with reinforced operations, aiming to rescue victims and restore safety.

Security Forces Adjust Strategies to Counter Insurgents

Defence Minister Christopher Musa confirmed that the military has taken control of key locations, killed insurgent commanders, and seized assets. He emphasized that operational strategies have been updated to address evolving threats.

“We will continue to do more. The President has approved additional military equipment to strengthen ongoing operations,” Musa said.

Impact of the Ngoshe Attack

The attack caused significant casualties among soldiers, community leaders, and residents. Hundreds of displaced persons fled toward Pulka and other safer areas.

Governor Babagana Zulum visited survivors, promising emergency food assistance and intensified rescue efforts for the abducted.

Presidential Response and Support

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima condemned the attack. They assured Nigerians that terrorists will not occupy any part of Nigeria.

General Musa noted, “The President’s support ensures our armed forces are fully equipped to prosecute this war.”

Military Perspective on the Conflict

Musa stressed that insurgent attacks often increase during Ramadan. However, the military has adjusted its tactics to counter this trend effectively.

He also highlighted that while the military suffered losses, terrorists have sustained heavier casualties, including the deaths of their commanders.

“Nigerians should not be discouraged by media reports. Our forces are committed and making progress on the ground,” Musa added.

Briefing After Closed-Door Security Meeting

The Defence Minister provided updates following a closed-door session at Aso Rock Presidential Villa with President Tinubu, service chiefs, and Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu.

The meeting addressed recent attacks on military formations nationwide and clarified developments surrounding the Ngoshe raid.

Call for Public Support

Musa urged Nigerians to remain patient and confident. He reassured citizens that security forces are determined to ensure national safety and restore stability in affected communities.
