Nigerians Among Injured After Iran Missile and Drone Attack

Several Nigerians were injured on March 14, 2026, after Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones at the United Arab Emirates, according to the UAE Ministry of Defence. The attack targeted areas within the UAE and injured more than 140 residents, including foreign nationals.

Authorities said the strikes marked a major escalation in the ongoing regional tensions between Iran and its adversaries.

The ministry disclosed the development in a statement posted on its official social media account.

UAE Air Defence Intercepts Missiles and Drones

The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that its air defence systems intercepted several incoming threats during the attack.

According to the ministry, defence units engaged nine ballistic missiles and 33 drones fired from Iran.

Despite the interceptions, the assault caused casualties. Officials confirmed six deaths and 141 injuries, including expatriates living in the Gulf country.

The incident has raised serious concerns among the large Nigerian community working and residing in the UAE.

Concerns Grow Over Nigerians Living in the Gulf

Thousands of Nigerians live and work in the UAE. Therefore, the attack triggered fears about their safety.

Nigerian officials have yet to release the exact number of citizens affected. However, reports confirm that several Nigerians sustained injuries during the strikes.

The development has also intensified concerns about the wider impact of the Middle East tensions on migrant communities.

Rising Boko Haram and ISWAP Attacks in Northern Nigeria

Terrorists Intensify Assault on Military Bases

Meanwhile, Nigeria faces a renewed wave of insurgent attacks in the North-East. Security analysts say militants now target military formations to regain lost ground.

Groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province have carried out coordinated assaults on bases and nearby communities.

Within three weeks, attacks in Borno State and Katsina State killed at least 65 Nigerian soldiers.

Security experts believe the strategy aims to weaken military presence and reassert territorial control.

Ramadan Motivation Behind Terrorist Attacks

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, linked the surge in attacks to extremist beliefs during the Ramadan period.

He explained that terrorists believe dying during battle guarantees spiritual rewards.

According to him, this belief encourages fighters to carry out aggressive attacks despite the risk of death.
