Ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 general election, the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, has openly declared support for APC governorship candidate Dikko Umar Radda during a campaign visit to his palace in Katsina, stating that family ties influenced his decision, according to a statement released Monday by campaign spokesman Ahmed Abdulkadir.
Emir Explains Reason for Endorsement
The monarch said several politicians sought his backing. However, he declined their requests.
He explained that Radda is his blood relative. Therefore, he chose to support him in the 2023 election.
This endorsement highlights the influence of traditional institutions in local politics.
Radda Presents Economic Plans
Earlier, Radda outlined key aspects of his policy document. He focused on improving living standards across the state.
He pledged to strengthen the economy. Specifically, he plans to fund micro-finance banks. These banks will offer interest-free loans to MSMEs.
In addition, he proposed creating a ministry dedicated to MSMEs. This move aims to support small businesses and boost job creation.
Focus on Social Development
Radda emphasized that his policy document covers all sectors. He said the plan targets the welfare of the less privileged.
Furthermore, he assured residents that his administration would prioritize inclusive growth.
Campaign Delegation in Attendance
Radda visited the emir alongside top party figures. These included his running mate, Faruk Jobe.
Others present were APC state chairman Sani Daura and campaign director-general Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
Also in attendance was senatorial candidate Abdul’aziz Musa Yar’Adua and other dignitaries.
