The Plateau State High Court in Jos on Thursday adjourned the arraignment of four suspects charged with terrorism-related offences over the March 28, 2026 killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA, after the defendants requested time to secure legal counsel, according to the State Attorney General, Philemon Daffi.
Court Adjourns Arraignment Over Lack of Counsel
The suspects appeared before Court 12 of the Plateau State High Court. However, proceedings stalled because they had no defence lawyers present.
As a result, the court granted an adjournment to allow them to contact their counsel.
The defendants include Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar (also known as Auwalu Dogo), Musa Abubakar Ibrahim (also known as Yaroro), and a fourth individual.
Charges: Terrorism Conspiracy and Funding
According to the charge, the suspects allegedly conspired to commit terrorism.
They reportedly planned, organised, and funded the Angwan Rukuba attack. The incident led to the death of over 30 people.
The government stated that the offences violate Sections 269 and 270 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law, 2017.
Security operatives from the DSS arrested the suspects between April 3 and April 10, 2026.
Deadly March 28 Attacks Shock Plateau
The attacks occurred on March 28 in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas.
Gunmen invaded several communities and killed at least 30 people, including children.
Consequently, the violence triggered outrage across the state and renewed security concerns.
Government Reacts: “This Is Genocide”
Governor Caleb Mutfwang strongly condemned the killings.
He described the attacks as a coordinated attempt to destabilise Plateau State.
“This is not a farmer-herder conflict,” he said. “It is genocide.”
He also urged the international community to take notice of the situation.
Tinubu Promises Justice and Peace
President Bola Tinubu recently visited Plateau State.
During the visit, he met with victims and reassured residents.
He promised that authorities would ensure justice and restore lasting peace.
Furthermore, he urged citizens to remain vigilant while security efforts continue.
