Benfica coach José Mourinho said on Friday in Portugal that he has had no contact with Real Madrid regarding a possible coaching return, dismissing rumours linking him to the Spanish club amid their ongoing managerial uncertainty.
Mourinho Dismisses Real Madrid Links
Mourinho firmly rejected claims of any approach from Real Madrid. He made this clear while speaking to reporters.
“I’ve been in football for many years, so I understand these rumours,” he said. “However, there is nothing from Real Madrid.”
Moreover, he stressed that speculation is common in football. Therefore, he remains unfazed by the reports.
Contract Situation at Benfica
Mourinho confirmed that he still has one year left on his Benfica contract. He also stated that this is his only priority.
In addition, he avoided discussing any future moves. Instead, he maintained focus on his current responsibilities.
Real Madrid Facing Difficult Season
Real Madrid continue to struggle this season. They trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by 11 points with five matches remaining.
Furthermore, Bayern Munich knocked them out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals. These results have increased pressure on current coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
Florentino Perez appointed Arbeloa in January. He replaced Xabi Alonso, who had a short spell in charge.
