The Progressive Governors Forum on Friday reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and endorsed Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman of the forum during a closed-door meeting in Abuja. The governors also backed Governor Uba Sani as vice-chairman. The meeting focused on party unity, Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, and ongoing economic reforms.
PGF Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid
Speaking after the meeting, Uzodimma urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s second-term ambition. He said the president needed more time to continue ongoing reforms and infrastructure projects.
According to him, governors recently accompanied Vice President Kashim Shettima to submit Tinubu’s nomination forms.
“As you are aware, just two days ago, we accompanied Vice President Kashim Shettima to submit the nomination forms of President Tinubu, signifying that he is recontesting,” Uzodimma said.
He added that the governors remained committed to supporting the president despite political distractions.
Governors Dismiss Leadership Crisis Rumours
Meanwhile, Governor Nasir Idris dismissed claims that Uzodimma had been removed as PGF chairman.
Idris explained that more than 18 governors attended the meeting and unanimously reaffirmed confidence in Uzodimma’s leadership.
He also noted that Uzodimma presided over the meeting alongside Uba Sani, which confirmed that the forum’s leadership structure remained unchanged.
Furthermore, Idris urged journalists to verify information before publication. He warned against spreading unconfirmed political reports.
PGF Says Forum Remains United
Uzodimma stressed that the forum would not allow fake news or political blackmail to create division within the group.
He maintained that APC governors were united and focused on mobilising nationwide support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Additionally, he described Tinubu’s economic reforms as pragmatic and beneficial to national development. He said the administration was repositioning the economy while improving infrastructure across the country.
APC Governors Reaffirm Confidence in Uzodimma
During the briefing, Nasir Idris moved the motion for a vote of confidence in Uzodimma’s leadership. Uba Sani seconded the motion, while governors present endorsed it unanimously.
The endorsement further strengthened the forum’s public show of unity amid recent speculation about internal disagreements.
