KANO — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has resolved the Kano Central APC senatorial dispute by facilitating a consensus agreement that produced Ibrahim Shekarau as the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections.

The breakthrough followed a high-level reconciliation meeting in Abuja on Sunday. Eight aspirants withdrew from the race and endorsed Shekarau after intervention by the governor and key stakeholders. The move aims to strengthen party unity and Kano’s political influence ahead of the polls.

Shekarau Praises Governor’s Peace Initiative

In his response, Senator Shekarau commended Governor Yusuf for promoting lasting peace among the aspirants. He also thanked the contenders for supporting him and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Shekarau, the agreement will deepen unity within the party and improve Kano’s political relevance at the national level.

Aspirants Withdraw for Party Unity

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Usman Bala said the decision followed Governor Yusuf’s intervention and their respect for Shekarau.

He explained that all eight aspirants accepted the peace initiative because it promoted unity and protected the party’s future.

Bala described the governor’s move as timely and strategic. He added that the reconciliation helped all sides focus on a shared political objective.

Governor Yusuf Commends Aspirants’ Sacrifice

Governor Yusuf praised the aspirants for placing public interest above personal ambition. He described their withdrawal as a sign of political maturity and commitment to democratic values.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to dialogue, inclusion, and consensus-building. He stressed that these principles remain vital for political stability and sustainable development in Kano State.

Kano Central Remains Politically Strategic

Kano Central is regarded as Nigeria’s largest senatorial district. The district consists of 15 local government areas and has an estimated population of over 10 million people.

Political observers believe the consensus arrangement could shape the future of Kano politics and influence national political calculations ahead of 2027.
