The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State on May 15, 2026, dismissed reports alleging that Governor Caleb Mutfwang and former governor Jonah David Jang endorsed aspirants for the party’s anticipated primary elections in Jos. The party described the claims as false, misleading and politically motivated. APC State Chairman Rufus Bature issued the clarification from the party secretariat at Kalwa House, Yakubu Gowon Way, Jos, to prevent misinformation and protect internal party democracy.
APC Rejects Alleged Endorsements
The APC Plateau State Secretariat said it had not approved or recognised any endorsement for aspirants contesting political positions.
According to the statement, no official communication supports any aspirant seeking seats in the Plateau Northern Senatorial Zone or other National Assembly positions.
The party stressed that aspirants must win support through democratic engagement and grassroots mobilisation. It added that credibility, competence and acceptance among party members should determine electoral success.
Party Warns Against False Political Narratives
Furthermore, the APC accused some political actors of spreading false narratives to influence public opinion ahead of the primaries.
The statement described the reports as “false, fake and entirely without merit.” It also warned individuals and groups promoting misleading information under the party’s name.
The party noted that disciplinary measures could follow if relevant committees find anyone guilty of spreading false claims.
APC Urges Peaceful Democratic Process
Meanwhile, the APC urged members and supporters to remain focused on peaceful and issue-based political activities.
The party encouraged aspirants to engage voters honestly instead of relying on fabricated endorsements. It also called on the public to ignore rumours surrounding the primary elections.
