Fulani Group Warns Plateau Government Over Shoot-on-Sight Order

By Elizabeth Ugbo

The Concerned Amalgamated Fulani Association has warned the Plateau State Government against a shoot-on-sight directive targeting suspected farmland destroyers. The group reacted on Monday after Governor Caleb Mutfwang reportedly issued the order during a condolence visit to Barkin Ladi Local Government Area following renewed violence that has killed more than 50 people within one month.

Fulani Association Rejects Directive

The Fulani socio-cultural group described the directive as dangerous. According to the association, the order could worsen the security situation and deepen tensions across Plateau communities.

The group urged the state government to reconsider the directive. It also called for dialogue, justice, and peaceful conflict resolution instead of forceful measures.

Furthermore, the association appealed to security agencies to remain professional while carrying out their duties. It warned against actions that could unfairly target innocent citizens, especially pastoral communities already affected by the crisis.

Governor Mutfwang Calls for Strong Action

Reports indicated that Governor Mutfwang gave the directive while addressing residents during his visit to Barkin Ladi. The governor reportedly instructed security agencies to take decisive action against anyone caught destroying farmlands.

The directive followed fresh attacks and growing insecurity in several communities across Plateau State.

Plateau Faces Recurring Violence

Plateau State has continued to experience recurring clashes linked to land disputes, farming activities, and communal tensions. Several local government areas have recorded violent attacks in recent months.

Meanwhile, residents and stakeholders have continued to demand stronger security measures. Many community leaders have also called for reconciliation efforts to restore lasting peace in the troubled state.
