Tinubu Assures Rescue of Kidnap Victims in Oyo, Condemns Killing of Teacher

By Elizabeth Ugbo

President Bola Tinubu has assured residents of Oyo State that security agencies will rescue victims abducted by bandits in Esiele community, Oriire Local Government Area. The President gave the assurance on Tuesday after gunmen attacked schools in the community last Friday, kidnapped teachers, pupils, and students, and reportedly killed one teacher during the ongoing rescue operation.

Tinubu Condemns Killing of Abducted Teacher

Tinubu described the reported killing of one of the abducted teachers as barbaric and heartbreaking. He expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased teacher and other affected families.

The President also sympathised with Governor Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Government, and residents over the tragic incident.

According to Tinubu, the Federal Government remains committed to securing the release of all kidnapped victims.

“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen who invaded the community,” the President said.

Security Agencies Intensify Rescue Efforts

Meanwhile, security operatives have continued coordinated operations to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers.

Tinubu praised the Inspector-General of Police and police commissioners in Oyo and Kwara states for their swift response. He noted that authorities deployed tactical teams and the Intelligence Response Team to track the criminals.

In addition, the President revealed that the Inspector-General of Police is personally supervising the technology-driven operation following his directive.

“We expect a breakthrough soon,” Tinubu stated.

He also warned that security agencies would arrest and prosecute the kidnappers and their collaborators within the community.

Tinubu Calls for State Police Creation

Furthermore, the President said the rising cases of kidnapping highlight the need for state police across Nigeria.

He urged the National Assembly to speed up the passage of legislation that would establish state police structures, especially in underserved areas.

According to him, state policing will strengthen local security and improve rapid response to crimes in rural communities.

Oyo Communities Demand Better Security

Residents of the affected communities have continued to express concerns over insecurity in the area. Parents and community leaders are also demanding stronger security measures around schools.

The attack has renewed conversations about school safety and rural security across Nigeria.
