The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday elected Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, as its governorship candidates for the 2027 general elections. The party conducted the primaries in Plateau and Kwara states, where delegates voted across local government areas. APC officials announced the results in Jos and Ilorin respectively, declaring both men winners after securing the highest votes in their contests.

Mutfwang Wins Plateau APC Governorship Primary

Chairman of the APC Committee for the governorship and House of Assembly primaries, Fidelis Mnyim, announced the result at the party secretariat in Jos after collation from the 17 local government areas.

According to the official figures, Mutfwang scored 233,335 votes. He defeated retired military officer, Chief Yilcini Jan Bida, who received 3,070 votes.

Mnyim said Mutfwang met the requirements of the party’s constitution and guidelines and therefore emerged as the APC governorship candidate.

Mutfwang joined the APC on January 2, 2026, shortly after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party on December 29, 2025.

Following the exercise, Plateau APC Chairman, Rufus Bature, praised the committee for conducting what he described as a transparent process. He added that the party would begin mobilising support ahead of the campaign season.

Danladi-Salihu Emerges Kwara APC Candidate

In Kwara State, APC members also concluded their governorship primary across the state’s 16 local government areas.

Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, announced the results in Ilorin.

Danladi-Salihu won the primary after polling 94,990 votes.

His closest challenger, Yahaya Seriki, secured 41,700 votes, while former APC state chairman, Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, recorded 22,118 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, Kwara APC Chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, described the process as peaceful and said the party remained united ahead of the 2027 elections.

APC Turns Attention to 2027 Campaigns

With the primaries concluded in both states, APC leaders say they will shift attention to party mobilisation and preparations for the governorship campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
