The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja. The incident reportedly occurred on June 4, 2026, around 10:30 a.m. Students raised an alarm by shouting “kidnappers,” causing panic within the school. Police officers from Nyanya Division responded immediately, investigated the claim, and found no evidence of kidnapping, suspect, or victim.
Police Respond Swiftly to Distress Call
Officers attached to the Nyanya Division received a distress call about a suspected kidnapping at the school.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) quickly deployed patrol and surveillance teams to the location. The response aimed to verify the situation and ensure the safety of students and staff.
Investigation Finds No Evidence of Kidnapping
Upon arrival, officers discovered that students had suddenly run out of classrooms while shouting “kidnappers.”
As a result, fear spread among teachers and residents in the area. However, police secured the school premises and conducted a thorough search.
Investigators questioned individuals within and around the school. They also inspected surrounding hills, boundary areas, and nearby locations.
Despite extensive checks, officers found no suspect and identified no victim. The investigation established that no kidnapping incident occurred.
Police Extend Security Checks to Nearby Areas
In addition to searching the school, officers visited nearby schools as a precautionary measure.
They also increased patrols in adjoining communities to reassure residents and maintain public confidence.
FCT Police Warn Against Spreading False Information
The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information.
According to the Command, false reports can create unnecessary panic and disrupt public peace.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the Command’s emergency lines.
