Visiting golfers from Katsina Golf Club defeated Kano Golf Club 1908 on Saturday at Kano Golf Course in Kano, Nigeria, during a one-day inter-club friendly matchplay organized to promote unity and golf development. The event featured 36 golfers, with 18 players from each club, competing in pairs over 18 holes, where Katsina secured a 4½ to 2½ victory. The competition brought together players of varying handicaps, and officials used the event to strengthen sporting ties, promote tourism, and encourage youth participation through golf.
Katsina Golf Club Secures 4½–2½ Victory
Katsina Golf Club delivered a strong performance to defeat hosts Kano Golf Club 1908.
The match ended with Katsina leading 4½ to 2½.
Both teams competed with discipline and sportsmanship throughout the game.
In addition, the contest reflected rising competitiveness between the clubs.
Match Format and Competitive Structure
The friendly match featured 36 golfers in total.
Each club fielded 18 players paired into teams of two.
They played across 18 holes under standard golf rules.
Moreover, players came from different handicap categories.
This structure ensured fairness and balanced competition.

At the closing ceremony, David Emeana described the event as a major return of matchplay to Kano.
He stated that his administration aims to improve facilities and promote unity through golf.
Furthermore, he urged members to support course upgrades and development plans.
In addition, Junaid S. Bindawa received the trophy on behalf of the visitors.
He praised the growing popularity of golf in Katsina State.
Golf Growth Expands in Katsina State
Bindawa noted that golf is gaining attention among both youth and older players.
He added that Katsina already has strong sporting traditions.
For example, polo and football remain widely popular in the state.
However, golf is now emerging as a fast-growing sport.
Therefore, the state continues to invest in sporting diversity.
Future Tournaments and Expansion Plans
Kano Golf Club plans to host a national tournament soon.
This event will mark the inauguration of the new captaincy.
Additionally, the club will organize zonal, national, and international competitions.
These will include Pro-Am events to raise the club’s profile.
Meanwhile, Katsina Golf Club also plans inter-club invitations across Nigeria.
This will strengthen national unity and sporting collaboration.
