The Federal Government has announced plans to deepen engagement with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) and other faith-based organisations to tackle Nigeria’s social, economic and security challenges. The announcement came through a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Thursday. The government said stronger collaboration would promote peace, national unity and sustainable development through continuous dialogue and shared responsibility.
Government Seeks Stronger Partnership
Senator George Akume said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu believes that lasting national solutions require active collaboration.
According to him, the government will continue working with faith-based organisations, traditional institutions, civil society groups, the private sector and citizens.
He stressed that inclusive engagement remains essential for addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
Dialogue Covers Key National Issues
The SGF disclosed that discussions with the Catholic Bishops focused on several critical national concerns.
These include security, the economy, education, public service delivery, electoral credibility and religious freedom.
Furthermore, he said the Federal Government welcomes constructive dialogue and honest recommendations from stakeholders.
Tinubu Administration Reaffirms Commitment to Democracy
Akume reiterated that the Tinubu administration remains committed to democratic principles.
He stated that the government neither seeks nor supports the establishment of a one-party state.
In addition, he assured Nigerians that the administration would continue to respect the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Government Commends Catholic Church’s Role
The SGF acknowledged the Catholic Church’s longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s national development.
He assured the Bishops that consultations with the CBCN and other stakeholders would continue.
According to him, sustained engagement will strengthen peace, foster national unity and support sustainable development across the country.
