Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms with raising the state’s monthly Federation Account allocation from about ₦4.5 billion to ₦16 billion. Sule made the disclosure in Lafia during a visit by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour. The team, led by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, visited Nasarawa to inspect federal and state projects. Sule said the reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, have created more funds for development.
Tinubu’s Reforms Increase Nasarawa’s Revenue
Governor Sule said Nasarawa previously received between ₦3.8 billion and ₦4.5 billion monthly from the Federation Account.
However, the state now receives about ₦16 billion each month.
According to Sule, the increase has given the state greater fiscal space.
It has also allowed his administration to undertake major development projects.
The governor spoke while receiving the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour team in Lafia.
The team includes Presidential media aides and more than 50 senior journalists.
They are touring North-Central states to inspect government projects and assess their impact.
Sule Commends Tinubu’s Economic Decisions
Sule praised President Tinubu for taking difficult economic decisions that previous administrations avoided.
He specifically mentioned the removal of the fuel subsidy and other economic reforms.
The governor acknowledged that the reforms initially created hardship for Nigerians.
However, he said the President showed political courage by accepting responsibility for the decisions.
Sule also stressed the need for proper communication about government policies.
According to him, citizens need to understand why difficult reforms become necessary.
He said the reforms have started producing benefits through increased government revenues.
“Today, we are beginning to see the benefits because the resources available to us have increased tremendously,” Sule said.
More Funds for Infrastructure and Social Development
Sule said the additional revenue has strengthened Nasarawa’s ability to execute major projects.
His administration has invested in roads, education, healthcare and water supply.
The governor also highlighted the state’s industrialization efforts.
He explained that his administration maintains transparency in contract awards.
Sule said his government publicly announces the cost of projects.
He added that the approach allows residents to monitor government spending.
Renewed Hope Media Team Inspects Nasarawa Projects
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Team inspected several projects during its Nasarawa tour.
The team visited the completed multi-billion-naira state secretariat along Shendam Road.
The secretariat houses several ministries, including Education, Housing and Urban Development.
It also accommodates the Ministries of Health and Justice.
The team further inspected a one-megawatt solar farm powering the secretariat.
They also visited the completed 16-kilometre Makurdi bypass in Lafia.
The bypass connects Nasarawa State with neighboring Benue State.
Other inspected projects included the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Centre.
The team also visited the Shinge Waterstorm Channel.
In addition, it inspected the completed Kilema Bridge along the Lafia-Doma Road.
Onanuga Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms
Bayo Onanuga praised President Tinubu for implementing long-delayed economic reforms.
He said successive administrations recognized the need for reforms but postponed them.
Onanuga recalled that Tinubu announced the removal of the fuel subsidy after assuming office in 2023.
The President later introduced foreign exchange reforms and unified multiple naira exchange rates.
According to Onanuga, those decisions initially increased inflation and economic hardship.
However, he said economic conditions have gradually improved.
Onanuga also thanked Governor Sule for supporting the reforms during their difficult early period.
He said Tinubu’s decisions freed additional resources for state and local governments.
According to him, governors can now use the increased allocations to develop their states.
Renewed Hope Agenda Delivering Projects
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, AbulAziz AbdulAziz, also spoke during the inspection.
He said the level of infrastructure development across Nasarawa and Benue shows progress.
AbdulAziz said the projects demonstrate that the Renewed Hope Agenda is producing results.
Meanwhile, Governor Sule expressed optimism about the continued implementation of economic reforms.
He believes stronger revenues will give states greater capacity for development.
He also said the reforms could support more transformative projects across Nasarawa State.
