President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm several nominees as the chamber resumes plenary in Abuja. The President made the request through separate communications covering nominees, legislative amendments, research funding and the Niger Delta Development Commission budget.
Tinubu Seeks Confirmation of Fiscal Responsibility Commission Nominees
President Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm Abdullahi Maikano as Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
He also submitted six other nominees for membership of the commission’s board.
The Senate will consider the nominees and conduct the required confirmation process.
The commission plays a key role in promoting accountability in public finance.
Senate Receives Ambassadorial Nomination
President Tinubu also asked the Senate to confirm Sani Ndanusa as a non-career ambassador.
The Senate received the President’s communication as lawmakers resumed plenary.
The confirmation process will allow senators to scrutinize the nominee’s qualifications and suitability.
Tinubu Nominates Federal Civil Service Commission Member
The President further requested Senate confirmation for Wakil Bukar as a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission.
The commission oversees important aspects of Nigeria’s federal civil service administration.
Therefore, the Senate is expected to consider the nomination alongside other requests from the President.
FG Transmits Medical College Amendment Bill
Meanwhile, the Federal Government transmitted the National Postgraduate Medical College Amendment Bill, 2026, to the Senate.
The proposed amendment seeks to expand the mandate of the National Postgraduate Medical College.
The bill will now undergo legislative consideration and scrutiny by the Senate.
If passed, the amendment could broaden the college’s responsibilities in postgraduate medical training.
Government Seeks National Research Development Fund
The Federal Government also asked the Senate to approve the establishment of a National Research Development Fund.
The proposed fund aims to support research and development activities in Nigeria.
Furthermore, the initiative could provide additional funding for research programmes and innovation.
The Senate will consider the proposal as part of its legislative duties.
NDDC 2026 Statutory Budget Sent to Senate
In another request, the Federal Government submitted the 2026 statutory budget proposal of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The proposal requires Senate approval before implementation.
Lawmakers will review the estimates and consider the commission’s proposed spending for the 2026 fiscal year.
The Senate’s consideration will form part of its oversight and budgetary responsibilities.
Senate Resumes Legislative Activities
The requests form part of several matters before the Senate as plenary resumes.
The chamber is expected to consider the nominations, bills and budget proposal through its established legislative procedures.
