The Osun State Government has intensified its digital transformation drive as Governor Ademola Adeleke unveiled new technology initiatives in Osogbo in 2025 to boost infrastructure, governance, public safety, and youth innovation. Speaking at the maiden Osun Digital Festival and the 2025 Osun Challenge Initiative, the governor explained how his administration is deploying ICT to expand opportunities, improve service delivery, and position Osun as a leading tech hub.
Osun’s Vision for Innovation and Economic Growth
In May 2025, The PUNCH reported the government’s commitment to harnessing innovation and technology for economic growth. The administration aims to create opportunities for residents, especially young people.
At the 2025 Osun Challenge Initiative in Osogbo, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Moroof Ayofe, said the state will provide resources and platforms for youths to develop solutions that bridge the digital divide.
He stressed that the government wants to position Osun as a hub for innovation and technology.
Technology at the Centre of Governance
The Special Adviser on Science and Technology, Azeez Badmus, said Governor Adeleke mandated that technology must sit at the centre of governance.
As a result, the state prioritised digital infrastructure. Broadband expansion now reaches several local governments. This ensures opportunity does not depend on location.
Moreover, the government automated key public services. Land administration processes now run faster. Investment platforms operate online. Payroll systems are fully digitised. Certifications are processed electronically.
These reforms reduce delays and improve transparency. They also strengthen the ease of doing business.
Youth Empowerment and Startup Support
The administration continues to invest in digital skills development. It also supports startups through structured programmes.
Governor Adeleke announced that from the next fiscal year, the state will provide grants and financial support to emerging tech businesses.
In addition, the state launched AlphaStart Hub, its first state-owned founders’ hub. Within one year, the government plans to establish three hubs across the senatorial districts. The headquarters will sit at the Osun Digital City.
Imole EduPod and Digital Learning Expansion
In the education sector, the governor introduced Imole EduPod. The initiative features a solar-powered, containerised mini hub.
The facility includes an offline Computer-Based Test centre. It also connects to Imole WiFi to expand digital learning access. Furthermore, the project promotes sustainable energy use in schools.
Smart Resident ID and AI Framework
To improve planning and security coordination, the state will implement the Osun Smart Resident ID. The initiative will strengthen service delivery and data management.
Through Imole WiFi, the government continues to expand public internet access across communities.
Furthermore, Osun is developing a state framework for Artificial Intelligence and blockchain deployment. The State Digital Protection Act and the proposed State AI Act are currently before the House of Assembly.
According to the governor, the framework will enable secure digital certificates and trusted government receipts. It will also support autonomous digital services through a redesigned state website.
Public Safety and Emergency Response
The government has reactivated the Emergency Call Centre. Residents can now access emergency services through the toll-free number 293.
Under the Osun Safe City Initiative, the state is deploying CCTV cameras in strategic locations. This move aims to enhance public safety and rapid response.
Osun’s digital transformation strategy shows a clear shift toward technology-driven governance. With investments in infrastructure, youth innovation, AI regulation, and public safety, the Adeleke administration continues to push Osun toward becoming a leading innovation hub in Nigeria.
