Government Cracks Down on Vandalism in Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, on Saturday warned village heads across Akwa Ibom State that he will withdraw their certificates if hoodlums vandalise government property in their communities. He gave the directive during the State Government House Monthly Prayer Service at the Latter House Chapel, Government House, Uyo, to strengthen accountability and protect public assets.
The governor said any community that hosts government projects must safeguard them. He stressed that leadership comes with responsibility and vigilance.
“Any village that we have government presence, and there is vandalism of government property in that village, we will withdraw the certificate of the village head,” he said.
He questioned the relevance of any village head who fails to protect public facilities.
“If a public school, well furnished with modern facilities by the government, could be vandalised in your locality, what is the usefulness of the village head there?” he asked.
Commissioner, ALGON Chairman Directed to Act
Furthermore, the governor directed the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong, and the State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, to convene an urgent meeting with village heads.
He instructed them to brief traditional leaders on their responsibilities regarding public property protection.
According to the governor, community leaders must work closely with security agencies. He also urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities.
Mini Water Projects for Every Ward
In addition, Gov. Eno announced plans to provide mini water projects in every ward across the state. He said the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee will supervise the projects.
He directed the committee to involve his personal assistants in all wards. This, he noted, will ensure transparency and effective monitoring.
Cleric Encourages Faith and Trust in God
During the service, the Presiding Bishop of Beautiful Gate Family Church, Rev. Bolaji Adeisrael, preached on the theme “Unsearchable God,” drawn from Romans 11:33.
He told Christians that God’s ways remain mysterious yet favourable to His children. He encouraged believers to trust and obey God to experience divine help and success.
The prayer service featured praise, worship, choir ministrations, and prayers. Top government officials, clergy, and political leaders attended the event.
