Anambra First Lady Urges Nigerians to Celebrate Love on Valentine’s Day

By Elizabeth Ugbo

The wife of the Anambra State governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, joined millions of people across Nigeria on Saturday, February 14, 2026, to celebrate Valentine’s Day. She called on Nigerians to show love to family, friends, and their communities by performing acts of kindness and genuine affection. The celebration, she noted, is an opportunity to spread love and positive actions everywhere.

Dr. Soludo, who is also the founder of the NGO “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo,” emphasized that true love is expressed through small, meaningful actions. She stated that even one act of kindness can leave a long-lasting impact on someone’s life.

Highlighting the origin of Valentine’s Day, she reminded Nigerians that the day honours Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr who became a symbol of love through his compassionate acts in prison. Over time, she explained, the celebration has evolved into a cultural and commercial observance of romance and affection worldwide.

She encouraged Nigerians to celebrate love with open hearts, free from hate and unkindness. In her words:

“There’s nothing more evocative than the gift of true love. Give not because it’s Valentine’s Day but because one little act of love can make a memorable impact. Let your words and actions today carry kindness and genuine affection. Celebrate with those you love, and extend a hand of kindness to everyone around you. Happy Valentine’s Day. I love you all.”
