By Elizabeth Ugbo

Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday visited Jos, Plateau State, to assess the security situation, engage residents, and strengthen military operations aimed at restoring peace amid rising violence.

Strategic Security Assessment

During the visit, Shaibu received a detailed operational briefing from Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace.

The briefing outlined ongoing military and inter-agency efforts. These efforts aim to stabilise affected communities and improve intelligence gathering.

Additionally, security teams continue to strengthen rapid response mechanisms across key flashpoints in the state.

Engagement With Communities

Meanwhile, the Army Chief engaged community leaders and residents. He assured them of the military’s resolve to tackle security challenges.

Officials explained that the engagement seeks to build trust between security forces and locals. It also encourages the flow of timely and credible intelligence.

A security source noted that such on-the-ground assessments often lead to more decisive and coordinated actions in volatile regions.

Collaboration With Security Agencies

Furthermore, military authorities confirmed close collaboration with other security agencies. This partnership ensures a unified and effective response to insecurity.

The coordinated approach also enhances operational efficiency and reduces response time to emerging threats.

Army Reaffirms Commitment

In a statement, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, reiterated the Army’s commitment to protecting citizens.

“The Nigerian Army remains fully committed to safeguarding law-abiding citizens,” Shaibu stated.

He added that the military will continue working with other agencies to protect lives and property across Plateau State.

Call for Calm and Cooperation

Shaibu urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive. He emphasised the importance of complying with existing security measures, including the curfew.

Moreover, he encouraged full cooperation with ongoing operations and investigations.

Heightened Security Efforts

The visit comes amid increased security concerns in parts of Plateau State. Authorities have intensified coordinated operations to contain threats and prevent further violence.
