The Borno State Police Command on Thursday disbursed ₦20,137,770.34 to nine families of officers who died in active service in Maiduguri, Borno State. Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid approved the payment under the Group Life Insurance Scheme to support beneficiaries’ welfare. The cheque presentation ceremony aimed to strengthen financial stability for the affected families.

Commitment to Officers’ Welfare

CP Abdulmajid stressed that the welfare of officers and their families remains a top priority. He noted that the insurance payout reflects the Force’s continued commitment to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Representing the CP, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, DCP Ibrahim Sumaila, delivered the Inspector-General’s message. He highlighted the importance of timely financial support for grieving families.

According to him, the scheme stands as proof of responsible leadership and institutional compassion.

IGP Reaffirms Institutional Support

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to officers’ welfare nationwide. He described the Group Life Insurance Scheme as a structured support system for dependents of fallen heroes.

Furthermore, he urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to improve education, healthcare, and household stability.

“The Group Life Insurance Scheme reflects the IGP’s compassion and accountability,” Sumaila stated during the ceremony.

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

Speaking on behalf of the families, Mr. Modu Ishaku thanked the police leadership for the gesture. He assured the Command that beneficiaries would use the funds prudently.

The recent Borno Police insurance payout follows a similar exercise in January 2026. At that time, the Command disbursed about ₦18.38 million to nine families.

Strengthening the Group Life Insurance Scheme

The Nigeria Police Force continues to implement the Group Life Insurance Scheme across commands nationwide. The initiative provides financial relief and stability to families after tragic losses in the line of duty.

Through consistent disbursements, the Force reinforces trust and strengthens morale among serving officers.
