By Elizabeth Ugbo

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will hold in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, made the announcement on Friday after a CAF Executive Committee meeting.

He also dismissed reports claiming the tournament could be postponed to 2028.

According to him, CAF remains fully committed to hosting AFCON 2027 in East Africa.

No Postponement of AFCON 2027

Motsepe denied speculation about delays due to preparedness concerns.

He emphasized that CAF has taken major steps to ensure smooth preparations.

Furthermore, he expressed confidence in the three host nations.

“We have done a lot to ensure AFCON is held in East Africa,” he said.

He added that CAF will work closely with the host countries.

Therefore, all infrastructure and logistics must meet international standards.

Proposed Dates for AFCON 2027

Although official dates are yet to be announced, CAF has proposed June and July 2027.

Notably, the tournament will take place before Kenya’s general elections in August 2027.

Consequently, organizers are aligning schedules to avoid disruptions.

First-Ever Three-Nation AFCON Hosting

Importantly, AFCON 2027 will be the first edition hosted by three countries.

Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda will jointly stage the continental tournament.

Previously, East Africa last hosted AFCON in 1976.

At that time, Ethiopia served as the sole host nation.

Stadium Renovations and Infrastructure Upgrades

Meanwhile, CAF is closely monitoring preparations in the three countries.

Specifically, stadium renovations are ongoing across selected venues.

In addition, training facilities are being upgraded to meet global standards.

Transportation networks are also under review to ensure seamless movement.

Overall, CAF insists that every aspect of AFCON 2027 will meet the highest standards.
