The Chairman of Egor Local Government Area, Osaro Eribo, on Tuesday said the council’s monthly allocation from the Federal Government is enough to run its affairs. He spoke in his office in Egor, Edo State, after receiving grading equipment from the state government. He explained how the funds help him pay salaries and execute projects. He also outlined plans to grade and tar roads across remaining wards.
New Equipment to Boost Road Projects
Eribo described himself as the “luckiest chairman” following the arrival of grading equipment. According to him, the machines will reduce the cost of hiring equipment, which previously stood at N1 million.
He assured residents that the new equipment will improve road grading across the council area.
“I promise the people of Egor that they will see the impact,” he said.
Previously, the council hired equipment at high rates. However, with the new machines, Eribo pledged that no road will remain ungraded.
Furthermore, he disclosed that he employed three operators two weeks ago in preparation for the equipment’s arrival. Each operator has over 28 years of experience. He also confirmed arrangements for a steady diesel supply.
Over 250 Roads Graded in Five Months
Eribo revealed that he has graded more than 250 roads in collaboration with councillors, ward chairmen, and community leaders.
According to him, local representatives identify priority roads in their wards. They also monitor projects to ensure transparency and quality delivery.
He added that wards 7, 9, and 10 are next in line. Work will begin immediately after servicing the equipment.
Moreover, the chairman noted that the council can begin road tarring once it hires two additional machines.
Monthly Allocation Covers Salaries and Projects
Speaking on autonomy, Eribo maintained that the Federal Government allocation remains adequate.
“I receive my monthly allowance from the Federal Government as at when due,” he said.
He explained that he embarks on at least two projects monthly while paying workers’ salaries promptly. As a result, workers now show renewed commitment because they receive their wages on time.
“When they talk about autonomy, I don’t think there is anything more to describe than what we are experiencing,” he added.
He stressed that since assuming office five months ago, he has consistently executed projects without delays.
Zero IGR but Reforms Underway
Eribo, however, disclosed that the council’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) currently stands at zero.
Despite this, he said the administration continues to function effectively with federal allocations.
He also referenced Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who is working to block revenue leakages and create new avenues for local government IGR.
According to the chairman, these reforms will further strengthen financial stability at the grassroots level.
Renewed Confidence in Egor LG
Eribo concluded that his administration has restored confidence in the council. Workers now operate with vigour, and residents continue to witness ongoing projects.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring visible development across all wards in Egor Local Government Area.
