The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr. The announcement came from Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who spoke on behalf of the government in Abuja. The holidays will allow Muslims nationwide to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
Government Congratulates Muslims on Ramadan Completion
The Minister congratulated Muslim faithful for completing the holy month of Ramadan. He praised their discipline, devotion, and commitment throughout the fasting period.
Furthermore, he encouraged them to continue practicing the values learned during Ramadan.
Call to Uphold Values of Peace and Generosity
He urged Muslims to sustain key virtues such as love, generosity, tolerance, and sacrifice. These values, he noted, help build a stronger and more united society.
In addition, he called on all Nigerians to embrace peace and mutual respect.
Appeal for National Unity and Prayers
The government encouraged citizens to use the festive period to pray for Nigeria’s unity and progress.
Moreover, the Minister emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in nation-building.
Celebrate Responsibly and Support the Less Privileged
While wishing Muslims a joyful celebration, the Minister advised everyone to celebrate responsibly.
He also urged Nigerians to show kindness by supporting the less privileged during the festivities.
Commitment to Peaceful Coexistence
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence. It pledged to continue promoting harmony among all citizens.
