Four Arrested in Ila-Orangun Over ‘Bandit Today Today’ Inscription – Osun Police

By Elizabeth Ugbo

The Nigeria Police Force in Osun has arrested four suspects in Ila-Orangun for allegedly inciting fear of a bandit attack after they inscribed “BANDIT TODAY TODAY” on a resident’s wall in Ajegunle area on February 18. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed the arrest on Friday in Osogbo, explaining that the suspects acted within the Ila-Orangun axis, why residents panicked, and how operatives tracked and apprehended them through intelligence analysis.

How the Incident Triggered Panic

According to Ojelabi, the inscription caused tension across the community.

Residents feared an imminent banditry attack. Consequently, some families fled their homes for safety.

He stressed that Osun has long enjoyed relative peace. Therefore, the command remains focused on sustaining that record.

Swift Police Response

Ojelabi said the command responded immediately after receiving the report.

Operatives from the State Intelligence Department launched a prompt investigation. Through diligent intelligence gathering, officers traced and arrested the suspects in the Ila-Orangun axis.

He added that preliminary findings linked one suspect directly to the act.

Suspect Confesses

During interrogation, one suspect admitted writing the inscription on the wall.

He claimed he acted out of ignorance.

However, police authorities said the alleged offences border on conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

Police Reassure Residents

Ojelabi urged residents to avoid actions capable of creating panic.

He also advised the public to continue their lawful activities without fear.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Osun State.
