Gombe 2027: Yahaya Backs Yamaltu–Deba for Central Senatorial Seat

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has pledged support for Yamaltu–Deba’s bid to produce the next senator for Gombe Central in 2027. He made this commitment during a meeting at the Government House in Gombe. The delegation, made up of political, traditional, and community leaders, pushed for power rotation. They argued that fairness demands a shift from Akko LGA, which has held the seat for years.

Demand for Equity and Inclusion

Yamaltu–Deba stakeholders stressed the need for justice and inclusivity. They noted that Akko Local Government has dominated the senatorial seat for too long. Therefore, they called for a balanced distribution of political opportunities.

Moreover, they drew lessons from Gombe South, where unity and democratic principles shaped leadership outcomes. As a result, they urged their people to remain peaceful and united.

Key Leaders Back the Move

Several influential figures supported the demand. These included:

  • Hon. Inuwa Garba, Member representing Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency
  • Hon. Adamu Pata, representing Yamaltu East
  • Hon. Muhammad Kabir Kuri, representing Deba Constituency
  • Abubakar Hassan Difa, Chairman of Yamaltu/Deba LGA
  • Traditional rulers such as Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu and QS Ahmed Usman

Together, they presented a unified request for the rotation of the Gombe Central Senatorial seat.

Governor Yahaya Responds

Governor Yahaya welcomed the delegation and assured them of fair consideration. He described their request as justified and timely.

“I will ensure equity, fairness, and justice prevail,” he said confidently.

He also praised the group for formally submitting their appeal to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC leadership. According to him, this step strengthens their case.

Democracy and Rotational Leadership

The governor emphasized that democracy must reflect the will of the people. He highlighted rotation as a key strategy for inclusion.

“Democracy belongs to the people. Every group must feel represented,” he stated.

Furthermore, he explained that both the government and the ruling party support the principle of fairness in political representation.

Path to 2027 Elections

Looking ahead, Governor Yahaya expressed optimism about the 2027 elections. He assured Yamaltu–Deba stakeholders that their aspiration would receive positive attention.

He also encouraged them to remain law-abiding and united. This, he said, would strengthen their chances of success.

Conclusion

The push for the Gombe Central Senatorial seat reflects growing calls for equity in Nigerian politics. With strong backing from leaders and the governor’s support, Yamaltu–Deba’s ambition may shape the 2027 political landscape in Gombe State.
