Abba Yusuf has praised Bola Tinubu after the Federal Executive Council approved the review and upgrade of the 132-kilometre Kano–Kongolom Road project valued at N334 billion. The approval was granted in Abuja on Wednesday. Yusuf said the project will boost jobs, trade and safety across Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.
Kano–Kongolom Road Upgrade Gets Federal Approval
The Kano–Kongolom corridor links Kano with Jigawa and Katsina states. Therefore, it serves as a strategic economic route in the North-West.
Yusuf described the approval as a historic breakthrough. He said it will transform Kano’s road network and reposition the state as a logistics hub in Northern Nigeria.
He added that the investment reflects strong federal commitment to regional growth.
Project Scope and Modern Features
The redesigned road will span 132 kilometres. Contractors will build a three-lane concrete carriageway.
In addition, the project will feature solar-powered street lights. It will also include modern CCTV surveillance systems to improve security.
Yusuf explained that the road will reduce travel time. Moreover, it will enhance safety for motorists and commuters.
Economic Impact on Kano and North-West
According to the governor, the project will create jobs during construction and after completion.
He stressed that it will attract investors into agriculture, trade and industry. As a result, farmers and traders will access larger markets.
He noted that the corridor acts as a gateway for commercial activities across the North-West.
“This project will open new economic frontiers for our farmers, traders and transporters,” Yusuf said.
He added that the development aligns with the Kano First Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Commendation for Federal Leadership
Yusuf commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for prioritising quality infrastructure delivery. He said the minister ensured the project received federal attention.
Furthermore, he assured that the Kano State Government will cooperate fully with contractors. He promised to provide an enabling environment for smooth execution and timely completion.
The governor’s remarks were contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, and sent to News Point Nigeria on Wednesday.
