Nigeria has officially flagged off its campaign for the 2025 Para-Badminton World Championships, scheduled to hold from February 8 to 14 in Bahrain, as three Nigerian para-athletes, led by Paralympic bronze medallist and world number two, Eniola Bolaji, depart the country to compete for medals and valuable world ranking points, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s presence on the global para-badminton stage.

In a statement by kola Daniels Special Assistant Media, Bolaji will be making her second international appearance of the year, following an impressive gold medal performance at the Egypt International Championship in January, a result that further highlights Nigeria’s rising profile in para-badminton.

Also representing the country are Paris 2024 Paralympian Chigozie Jeremiah, who will compete in the men’s SL4 category, and Chinyere Okoro, Nigeria’s sole participant in the women’s SL4 event.

Speaking on the team’s participation, Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to inclusive sports development and sustained international exposure for para-athletes.

“Our mandate is clear — to give every Nigerian athlete, including those in para-sports, the opportunity to excel on the world stage,” Olopade said. “This trip reflects our commitment to structured preparation, athlete welfare, and the long-term growth of para-badminton in Nigeria.”

President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, described the athletes as fully prepared for the championship, citing a four-week intensive training programme held in Abuja prior to their departure.

“The athletes have put in the work and are mentally and physically ready for the challenge in Bahrain,” Orbih stated. “Eniola is competing with confidence after her success in Egypt, while Chigozie and Chinyere have shown remarkable improvement and determination during camp.”

Orbih also commended the continued support of the National Sports Commission and corporate partners, noting that such backing has enabled Nigerian athletes to remain active in international ranking competitions.

Nigeria’s representatives will be targeting podium finishes and crucial ranking points at the Bahrain championship as they continue to elevate the nation’s profile in global para-badminton.
