NDPC, NACCIMA Seal Strategic Data Protection Partnership

Nigeria Data Protection Commission and National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture formalised their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding in Abuja.

The agreement seeks to improve compliance with Nigeria’s data protection regulations. It also encourages responsible data management among businesses in the organised private sector.

NDPC National Commissioner and CEO Vincent Olatunji described the partnership as a major step forward.

According to him, the collaboration will help businesses understand privacy best practices. It will also support the development of a secure digital environment for enterprises.

Data Protection Key to Nigeria’s Digital Economy

Olatunji stressed the importance of strong privacy standards for economic growth.

He said improved data protection will safeguard personal and corporate information. In addition, it will help Nigeria attract international investors.

“Strengthening data protection standards protects sensitive information and improves investor confidence,” he explained.

Olatunji linked the initiative to the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The agenda prioritises policies that strengthen the investment climate and expand the digital economy.

NACCIMA Highlights Trust in Digital Business

Meanwhile, NACCIMA President Jani Ibrahim praised NDPC for strengthening Nigeria’s reputation in global data protection.

He emphasised that trust drives modern economic growth, especially as companies adopt digital systems.

“The operationalisation of this MoU will strengthen investor confidence in Nigeria,” Ibrahim said.

He added that the initiative will encourage responsible business practices. Furthermore, it will ensure organisations handle personal data with greater transparency.

Benefits for Businesses and Citizens

The partnership will create stronger awareness of privacy compliance among Nigerian businesses.

It will also encourage companies to adopt global data protection standards. As a result, businesses can protect sensitive information more effectively.

Ultimately, the initiative will benefit Nigerians. Organisations will manage personal data responsibly and respect individuals’ privacy rights.
