Operation Hadin Kai Kills Eight Boko Haram Fighters, Seizes Armed Drone in Borno

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai killed eight Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters and recovered heavy weapons during coordinated attacks on Forward Operating Bases in Borno State between February 28 and March 1, 2026. The terrorists attacked FOBs in Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram, but soldiers repelled them, seized RPGs, guns, and an armed drone, and secured the affected communities.

However, a gallant officer died during the fierce battle at Mayanti in Bama Local Government Area.

Troops Repel Attack at FOB Mayanti

Troops confronted heavily armed terrorists at FOB Mayanti and stopped the assault.

According to Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, soldiers maintained strong defensive positions despite ambushes and IED threats.

“Troops of OPHK have once again demonstrated resilience and battlefield dominance,” Uba said.

During exploitation, troops recovered five terrorist corpses. They also seized three PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, two RPG-7 launchers, and four AK-47 rifles.

In addition, soldiers recovered two FN rifles, three RPG bombs, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition. Blood trails suggested more terrorists escaped with injuries.

Armed Drone, Explosives Recovered in Gajiram

Meanwhile, terrorists attacked FOB Gajiram with PKT guns, RPGs, and an armed drone.

Troops quickly countered the attack and forced the insurgents to retreat.

Soldiers recovered three terrorist bodies along the withdrawal route. They also seized four AK-47 rifles and five anti-tank bombs.

Furthermore, troops recovered three locally made mortar bombs and one armed drone. They found six fully loaded 7.62mm NATO magazines, barbed wire cutters, and poisoned arrows.

Security forces confirmed that the terrorists abandoned the items while fleeing.

Sector II Operations Disrupt ISWAP Logistics

In separate operations across Sector II, troops engaged insurgents at Kayawa Village. The fighters fled and abandoned a tricycle, three motorcycles, and five bicycles.

Security forces also arrested two ISWAP logistics suppliers.

Additionally, troops destroyed terrorist life-support structures.

During an ambush at Bulturam Corner and Dadingel in Gujba Local Government Area, soldiers neutralized two terrorists. They recovered two AK-47 rifles and four magazines.

Sustained Pressure Weakens Terrorist Network

Lt. Col. Uba stressed that sustained offensives continue to weaken insurgent networks.

He noted that troops have targeted terrorist enclaves, logistics corridors, and leadership structures.

Consequently, coordinated attacks on military bases continue to fail.

Operation Hadin Kai remains focused on eliminating terrorist threats and restoring lasting peace across Borno and the North-East.
