Alex Otti on Saturday urged his cabinet members to prioritise the future of Abia above all interests. He spoke in Umuahia during the two-day First Quarter Retreat organised by the Abia State Government for political appointees. The retreat, themed “Accelerating Progress: Unlocking New Opportunities,” aims to align strategies, improve performance, and strengthen teamwork. Otti challenged officials to stay focused, avoid distractions, and deliver measurable results across key sectors.
Otti Demands Focus on Collective Goals
Otti stressed that the future of Abia must come first. He warned that distractions could derail shared objectives.
“The future of Abia must be prioritised over every other consideration,” he said.
He urged participants to engage constructively throughout the retreat. According to him, the forum is not for personal disagreements. Instead, it provides space for honest dialogue and problem-solving.
“It is imperative that we listen and engage respectfully,” Otti stated. “This retreat is about the welfare of our people.”
Teamwork Over Personal Interests
Otti reminded appointees that they operate as one team. He explained that success and failure affect everyone collectively.
He added that performance should not depend on budget size. Rather, officials must measure value through impact and service delivery.
“The value of your office lies in your output,” he noted. “We must evaluate investments based on reach and results.”
Furthermore, he emphasised the need for a holistic policy approach. This, he said, will guide better decisions across sectors.
Strategic Alignment for Sustainable Growth
The Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Meribeole, described the retreat as timely and strategic. He said the state stands at a critical rebuilding stage.
Meribeole highlighted reforms introduced since Otti assumed office. He explained that the retreat offers space for evaluation and alignment.
“Governance does not succeed in silos,” he said. “Coordination drives results.”
He encouraged participants to challenge ideas constructively and embrace innovation. According to him, stronger collaboration will improve service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Major Investments Across Key Sectors
Otti revealed that his administration plans to invest over one trillion naira in education, healthcare, and other sectors. He expressed confidence in the state’s economic outlook.
“2026 will be very busy for this cabinet,” he said. “No amount of noise can distract us.”
He acknowledged visible socio-economic progress under his leadership. However, he insisted that officials must remain attentive to political developments.
Finally, Otti charged his team to perform their duties with diligence and firm commitment to the new Abia agenda.
