The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State arrested ten suspected kidnappers in Akure on Ondo Road during a targeted operation. The operation followed credible intelligence and involved the Anti-Kidnapping Section and visiting PMF personnel. Police recovered ransom money and a motorcycle used for operations. The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the breakthrough and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to public safety.
Intelligence-Led Operation Along Ondo Road
According to DSP Abayomi, operatives acted swiftly on actionable intelligence. Consequently, they mobilized to identified locations along Ondo Road in Akure.
The team arrested ten suspects believed to belong to a kidnapping syndicate. The suspects include:
- Muritala Muhammed (22)
- Mustapha Adamu (20)
- Usman Ibrahim (25)
- Amisu Aruna (28)
- Asiru Abdulasis (20)
- Abduliu Sanni (22)
- Ibrahim Suraju (20)
- Noah Isiaku (20)
- Abdulahi Suraju (20)
- Arabi Hamet (18)
Ransom Money and Motorcycle Recovered
During the operation, officers recovered ransom money and the syndicate’s operational motorcycle. Notably, part of the cash included burnt currency notes.
Investigators are documenting the recovered items as exhibits. Furthermore, the suspects have provided confessional statements detailing their individual roles within the group.
Police Intensify Crackdown on Kidnapping
DSP Abayomi described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in the Command’s sustained crackdown on violent crimes. He stated that the Command remains resolute in protecting lives and property across Ondo State.
Moreover, the Police have begun efforts to identify and arrest other accomplices still at large. The Command continues to expand its intelligence network to dismantle the entire syndicate.
Call for Community Support and Vigilance
The Police urged residents to provide timely and credible information. Community partnership, Abayomi stressed, remains critical in combating kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He also encouraged communities to organize credible vigilante groups. These groups should complement the efforts of security agencies across the state.
