President Bola Tinubu has congratulated winners of Saturday’s elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, and Rivers State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted chairmanship, councillorship, and state constituency by-elections. The polls involved six FCT area councils—Abuja Municipal (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji—and constituencies in Kano and Rivers States.
APC Secures Majority Wins in FCT and State By-Elections
INEC results show that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC, and Bwari area councils. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won only in Gwagwalada. In state constituency by-elections, APC claimed both Rivers State seats and victories in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies.
Tinubu Calls for Humble and Patriotic Leadership
President Tinubu urged all winners to serve with humility, patriotism, and dedication, describing their mandate as a “sacred trust.” He praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for notable achievements in the territory, which contributed to APC’s electoral success.
Acknowledgment of INEC and Election Participants
The President commended INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring peaceful elections. He also praised candidates for their courage and discipline. Tinubu highlighted that vibrant participation strengthens democracy and electoral culture.
PDP Challenges Election Results
Despite APC’s victories, PDP reported low voter turnout and alleged unlawful conduct during the elections. The party has formed a special legal team to handle potential election petitions arising from the FCT Area Council elections.
Strengthening Democratic Institutions
Tinubu affirmed that the elections reinforce democratic culture and institutions in Nigeria. He encouraged INEC to continue improving electoral processes to achieve even more transparent and credible results.
