Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has appointed Mr. Onwuka Nzeshi as the new Chief Press Secretary and dissolved the State Executive Council, in a move announced on Thursday, February 12, 2026, in Port Harcourt. The state government did not give a reason for the dismissal of the former Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi, but the development comes following a recent peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu between Governor Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.

The government’s special announcement, sent to newsmen by the new Chief Press Secretary, directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their ministries immediately. The statement expressed appreciation to outgoing members of the Executive Council and wished them well in their future endeavors.

Following the dissolution, Governor Fubara is expected to submit a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. Reports indicate that, under the agreement with Wike, some loyalists of the former administration may be included in the new cabinet, while certain former commissioners might be reinstated.
