Tinubu Skips Lagos Bridge Inauguration Over Security Briefings

By Elizabeth Ugbo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu missed the inauguration of the Open-Mende-Ojota Link Bridge on Wednesday in Lagos because he prioritised urgent national security briefings, and Godswill Akpabio represented him by commissioning the project on his behalf.

Security Concerns Take Priority

According to Sunday Dare, the President focused on pressing national security matters. He explained that recent attacks and unrest required immediate attention.

Dare referenced the attack in Jos and noted rising tensions across several regions. He added that such developments required swift and decisive action.

Active Engagement With Security Agencies

The President remained fully engaged despite his absence. Dare said Tinubu continued receiving constant security updates from intelligence agencies.

He also maintained direct communication with key stakeholders. As a result, the government responded quickly to emerging threats.

Rising Insecurity Across States

Dare pointed to troubling situations in Jos, Kaduna, and Niger states. He described the developments as concerning and unacceptable.

Therefore, Tinubu prioritised national stability over ceremonial duties. He focused on coordinating efforts to address security challenges.

Lagos Projects Still Commissioned

Despite Tinubu’s absence, the event proceeded smoothly. Akpabio represented the President and delivered his message.

The inauguration formed part of activities scheduled during the President’s Lagos visit.
