Troops Kill Eight Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists in Konduga Operation

By Elizabeth Ugbo

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East under Operation Hadin Kai killed eight Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on February 25, 2026, during an offensive at Shehuri community in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation, carried out around 9:15 a.m. by Sector 1 troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), targeted fighters linked to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province. Military sources confirmed the incident in Maiduguri on Thursday.

How the Operation Unfolded

Troops launched the mission under Operation Desert Sanity V. They moved into the Shehuri area of Konduga LGA after receiving intelligence reports.

At about 0915 hours, soldiers intercepted the terrorists. A fierce gun battle followed. However, superior firepower gave the troops the advantage.

Eight terrorists were neutralised during the encounter. Meanwhile, several others fled with gunshot wounds.

Arms and Ammunition Recovered

Following the clash, troops conducted an immediate exploitation of the area. They recovered one AKSM automatic rifle and one pump-action rifle. Soldiers also seized cartridges and loaded magazines from the scene.

Importantly, no casualties were recorded among the troops or CJTF members. This outcome further boosted morale within the ranks.

Military Source Confirms Incident

A credible military officer, who requested anonymity because he is not authorised to speak publicly, confirmed the development.

“Yes, it is true that our troops, in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, recorded another success against terrorists,” the officer said.

He added that the operation demonstrated the growing coordination between troops and local security volunteers.

Security Situation Remains Calm but Unpredictable

Although the general security situation in the area remains calm, it is still unpredictable. Troops continue to maintain high morale and operational efficiency across their area of responsibility.

Furthermore, military authorities have intensified surveillance and clearance operations. They aim to prevent fleeing insurgents from regrouping.

The latest success reinforces ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks in Borno and the wider North-East region.
