Truck Crushes Tricycle, Kills Two at Umuahia Junction

A speeding truck killed a tricycle operator and his female passenger on Tuesday evening at Sign Board junction near Ubani Market, Umuahia, Abia State. The crash happened when the truck rammed into the tricycle along Umuahia-Ubani-Uzuakoli Road. An eyewitness confirmed the impact threw the tricycle under the truck. Both victims died instantly, and the truck driver fled the scene.

Eyewitness Narrates Fatal Crash

An eyewitness, who gave his name as Uche, described the incident as shocking.
He said the truck moved at high speed before hitting the tricycle.
The impact dragged the smaller vehicle under the truck.
He added that the driver escaped immediately after noticing the fatalities.

FRSC Confirms Incident

The Abia State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, confirmed the crash.
She described the incident as tragic and avoidable.
She said officials recovered the bodies and deposited them at a mortuary in Umuahia.
She also noted that authorities have begun efforts to track the fleeing driver.

Rising Accidents at Sign Board Junction

Ezeoma revealed that the junction has recorded repeated accidents.
She said three similar crashes occurred there in 2025.
These incidents have caused multiple deaths.
She stressed that the area remains a high-risk zone for motorists.

Another Fatal Crash Reported in Aba

Earlier that same day, another deadly accident occurred in Aba.
A tricycle knocked down a motorcycle rider on Opobo Road.
An oncoming truck then crushed the victim.
The tricycle rider fled the scene immediately.

FRSC Issues Safety Warning

Ezeoma urged drivers to avoid overspeeding at all times.
She advised heavy-duty vehicle operators to exercise extra caution.
She also called on tricycle riders to stay alert at dangerous junctions.
She emphasized strict compliance with traffic rules to save lives.
