Niger State_ Suspected bandits have killed at least 26 people in coordinated attacks in Borgu Local Government Area. The assaults occurred between Friday and early Saturday. Consequently, several houses and a police station were burned.
The attacks targeted Feyi, Tungan Makeri, and Nkpaso communities. As a result, many residents fled their homes for safety.
First Attack Hits Feyi Community
According to local sources, the first attack happened on Friday in Feyi. Armed men reportedly stormed the village on motorcycles. They shot sporadically and created panic.
As a result, six people were killed during the raid. Meanwhile, terrified villagers ran into nearby bushes to escape.
Gunmen Strike Again in Tungan Makeri and Nkpaso
However, the attackers did not stop there. Instead, they moved to Tungan Makeri and Nkpaso in the early hours of Saturday.
During the second wave of attacks, 20 more people were reportedly killed. In addition, the Pissa Police Station was set ablaze.
Furthermore, several houses were destroyed during the violence. Consequently, property worth millions of naira was lost.
Military Helicopter Sighted
According to a community source, a military helicopter later flew over the affected areas. However, no casualties were reported among the bandits.
Meanwhile, residents expressed concern over repeated attacks in recent months. As a result, many families have abandoned their homes.
Police Confirm Raid, Report Six Deaths
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident. However, officials reported only six deaths so far.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, a report was received around 6am on February 14, 2026. The report stated that suspected bandits invaded Tunga-Makeri around 3am via Shafachi district.
Additionally, several houses were burned during the invasion. Moreover, an unspecified number of residents were abducted.
The attackers reportedly moved toward Konkoso village afterward.
Security Agencies Launch Response
However, joint security teams have now been deployed to the area. They are currently assessing the situation and rescuing victims.
Meanwhile, security patrols have intensified across the affected communities. Investigations are also ongoing to determine the full extent of the killings and abductions.
As tension remains high, residents continue to stay on alert.
