President Bola Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, after a four-week stay in Europe. The President arrived in Lagos from Paris aboard Nigerian Air Force One at about 6:32pm. His return comes ahead of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Tinubu Returns From Extended European Stay
The presidential aircraft taxied into the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Tinubu had left Nigeria on August 30 for London before proceeding to Paris, France.
During his stay, the President held several engagements with French officials and other stakeholders.
He also met French President Emmanuel Macron during his time in Paris.
The two leaders held discussions and attended a dinner as part of Tinubu’s engagements.
President Expected at Independence Anniversary Events
Tinubu’s return ends his four-week stay outside Nigeria.
The President is now expected to participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The anniversary celebrations will take place on October 1.
Tinubu’s return also comes as the Federal Government prepares for various national events.
Journalists Restricted From Arrival Coverage
Journalists at the airport were reportedly barred from taking visuals of the President’s arrival.
Media coverage remained restricted as the presidential aircraft approached the terminal.
The restriction limited journalists’ ability to capture the President’s arrival directly.
However, reports confirmed that Tinubu had landed safely in Lagos.
His arrival marks the end of his latest overseas engagements.
Tinubu Resumes Presidential Duties
Following his return, the President is expected to resume his official duties in Nigeria.
His schedule is also expected to include activities linked to the Independence Anniversary.
The Presidency has not indicated any changes to the planned national events.
Tinubu’s return places him back at the centre of activities ahead of October 1.
