President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Sends Shettima to Kano Over Singer Market Fire Disaster

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead a Federal Government delegation to Kano.

The visit follows the devastating Singer Market fire disaster.

The incident occurred over the weekend and destroyed goods worth billions of naira.

Notably, this is the second fire at the market within two weeks.

Consequently, the President ordered immediate federal intervention.


Federal Delegation to Deliver Condolences and Support

The delegation will depart Abuja on Tuesday for Kano.

During the visit, the team will convey the President’s condolences to affected traders.

Furthermore, the delegation will pledge financial assistance on behalf of the Federal Government.

In addition, officials will support efforts to reopen the market quickly.

Therefore, the move aims to reduce traders’ economic hardship.


Key Government Officials in the Delegation

The team includes the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Also included is Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

Similarly, Senator Kawu Ismaila and Rep. Abubakar Kabir Bichi are members.

Moreover, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Bernard M. Doro, will participate.

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mrs Zubaida Umar, is also part of the team.


Tinubu Speaks With Kano Governor

Earlier, President Tinubu spoke with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf by telephone.

During the call, he expressed sympathy to the traders and residents.

He also assured the state government of federal support.


Investigation Ordered Into Recurrent Market Fires

The fire began Saturday evening and continued into Sunday morning.

As a result, extensive damage occurred at Singer Market, Nigeria’s largest food market.

However, the repeated incidents have raised serious concerns.

Therefore, President Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation.

The probe will determine the causes of the recurring market fires.

Ultimately, the government aims to prevent future disasters and protect traders’ livelihoods.
