Air Vice Marshal Osichinaka Chiedu Ubadike has become the first serving officer of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to earn a professorship. The Governing Council of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) conferred him with the title of Professor of Aerospace Engineering in Kaduna. The appointment recognizes his outstanding contributions to aerospace research, military operations, and technological innovation.
This landmark decision strengthens the bond between military service and academic excellence in Nigeria.
A Blend of Military Leadership and Academic Excellence
Air Vice Marshal Ubadike hails from Umuazu Village, Umuoji, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Over the years, he has built a rare profile that combines operational command with scholarly distinction.
He has consistently delivered results both in service and in academia. As a result, he enjoys strong recognition in professional and research communities.
Strong Academic Background
Ubadike holds a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master’s degree from Cranfield University, a globally respected institution for aerospace and defence studies. In addition, he earned three more Master’s degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Earlier, he graduated with a First-Class degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Nigerian Defence Academy. This achievement laid the foundation for his distinguished career.
Driving Innovation in the Nigerian Air Force
Beyond academics, Ubadike has driven innovation within the Nigerian Air Force. Notably, he contributed to the development of the indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle programme.
This initiative strengthens Nigeria’s local defence technology capacity. It also reduces dependence on foreign military platforms.
