Gombe Project Inauguration Strengthens Grassroots Governance

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, on Tuesday hosted Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and Presidential aide Ibrahim Masari in Nafada, Gombe State. They gathered to inaugurate major infrastructure projects and lay foundations for new Local Council Development Areas. The event aimed to boost governance, improve infrastructure, and drive socio-economic growth across affected communities.

The ceremony formed part of ongoing efforts to deepen grassroots administration in the state.

Key Projects Inaugurated in Nafada

During the Gombe project inauguration, officials unveiled the new Nafada Local Government Secretariat. The structure replaces an old building that hindered effective service delivery. Consequently, residents now expect faster and more efficient governance services.

They also inaugurated a four-span bridge in Nafada. Previously, seasonal flooding cut off communities during the rainy season. However, the new bridge now ensures year-round access and improved connectivity.

In addition, leaders commissioned a mega non-formal learning centre, popularly known as Tsangaya School. The school integrates Almajiri children into a structured education system. As a result, more children will gain access to formal and supportive learning.

Road and Commercial Complex Boost Economic Activities

Masari inaugurated the 7.5-kilometre Kwanan Rugaji–Almakashi Road, including a spur to Gargaldu. The road links Funakaye Local Government Area to neighbouring communities in Yobe State. Therefore, traders and commuters can now move goods and services more easily.

Furthermore, Masari commissioned a 66-shop ultra-modern commercial complex in Bajoga. Authorities named the complex after the late Emir Muhammadu Kwairanga. The facility aims to enhance commerce and provide a conducive environment for traders.

Foundation Laying for New LCDAs

At Tongo and Birin Fulani, Yahaya laid the foundation stones for Funakaye South LCDA and Nafada South LCDA. He explained that the creation of 13 LCDAs will bring governance closer to the people.

“Today marks another milestone in our journey to deepen democracy,” Yahaya said.

He added that the LCDAs will eventually transform into full local government areas. Moreover, the state will conduct future local council elections alongside the LCDAs to strengthen democratic legitimacy.

Inspiration from Lagos Development Model

Yahaya revealed that Gombe drew inspiration from the development area model introduced in Lagos State. He commended President Bola Tinubu for pioneering the initiative during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.

According to him, the model has delivered sustained grassroots development. Therefore, he expressed confidence that Gombe will achieve even greater success.

Buni Commends Yahaya’s Leadership

In his remarks, Buni praised Yahaya’s bold and strategic initiatives. He noted that strengthening local governance will accelerate development and improve public service delivery across Gombe State.
