Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been cleared of match-fixing allegations after an internal investigation by Singida Black Stars. The probe examined incidents that occurred during recent matches in Tanzania. Club officials conducted the investigation in February and March 2026. They concluded that the errors which raised suspicion were only technical mistakes. As a result, the club lifted Obasogie’s three-month suspension and allowed him to return to duty.

Singida Investigation Finds No Evidence

The Tanzanian club confirmed the decision in a statement signed by Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Kassano.

According to the statement, the disciplinary committee reviewed all concerns raised by fans and management. However, the panel found no evidence linking Obasogie to match-fixing or gambling.

The club explained that the controversial incidents resulted from technical errors during matches. Consequently, the club reversed the suspension placed on the Nigerian goalkeeper.

Earlier, Singida suspended Obasogie on February 27 after mistakes in games against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup. Similar concerns also emerged during league matches against Pamba Jiji FC and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.

Obasogie Reacts After Being Cleared

Following the announcement, Obasogie expressed relief and gratitude. He shared his reaction in a video posted on Facebook.

“I am happy everything about the allegation has been resolved,” he said.

He thanked supporters, teammates, and fans who stood by him during the investigation.

“I appreciate everyone who prayed for me and supported me. The love is massive,” he added.

Appreciation to NFF and Supporters

The goalkeeper also thanked the Nigeria Football Federation for believing in him.

In addition, he appreciated Philip Shaibu, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports.

Obasogie described Shaibu as a passionate supporter of football development in Nigeria.

He also acknowledged his former club Bendel Insurance F.C., his family, the media, and Singida Black Stars for conducting a fair investigation.

Obasogie’s Career and Super Eagles Role

Obasogie joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Fasil Kenema S.C..

Since then, he has remained a regular presence in the Nigerian national team camp.

He was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The team finished third in the tournament.

During the competition, he served as third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.

Match-Fixing Controversies in Nigerian Football

Obasogie is the second Nigerian goalkeeper linked to a betting controversy in recent years.

In 2025, Maduka Okoye received a two-month suspension in Italy over his involvement in a betting scandal.

However, Obasogie’s case ended differently after Singida’s investigation cleared him of any wrongdoing.

With the allegations resolved, the Super Eagles goalkeeper is now expected to focus fully on his club and international duties.
