Real Madrid Dominate Manchester City in Champions League Last-16

Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 3–0 in their UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Wednesday night. Federico Valverde scored a stunning first-half hat-trick to give the Spanish giants a commanding advantage. The match answered the key questions of who dominated, what happened, when it occurred, where it took place and how Real seized control of the tie.

City Start Brightly but Lose Control

Manchester City began the match with energy and attacking intent.

Jérémy Doku quickly tested Trent Alexander-Arnold down the flank. However, City lost their rhythm after conceding the opening goal.

From that moment, Real Madrid grew in confidence. The home crowd at the Bernabéu lifted the team’s intensity and momentum.

Meanwhile, City struggled to maintain defensive balance. Their open midfield allowed Real to break forward repeatedly.

Valverde’s Hat-Trick Shocks Guardiola’s Side

Federico Valverde delivered a sensational performance with three clinical finishes.

The first goal arrived after a long pass from Thibaut Courtois. The ball dropped behind Nico O’Reilly, allowing Valverde to round Gianluigi Donnarumma and score.

Seven minutes later, the Uruguayan midfielder struck again. He calmly fired a low shot across Donnarumma to double Real’s lead.

Soon after, Valverde completed his hat-trick in style. He controlled a lofted pass, lifted the ball over Marc Guehi, and volleyed past the goalkeeper.

The Bernabéu crowd erupted as the midfielder produced one of the competition’s standout performances.

Courtois Denies City a Lifeline

City created several opportunities despite their defensive struggles.

However, Erling Haaland remained largely anonymous due to limited service.

Meanwhile, Courtois delivered a crucial save. He stretched his leg to block a close-range effort after O’Reilly robbed Thiago Alcântara inside the box.

City also survived another scare when Donnarumma saved a penalty from Vinícius Júnior after fouling him earlier.

Real Madrid Thrive in Champions League Atmosphere

Real Madrid once again demonstrated their remarkable Champions League pedigree.

Even without injured stars Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo, the Spanish giants dominated.

Their performance showed why they remain one of the competition’s most dangerous teams.

Interestingly, Alexander-Arnold recovered from a difficult start and later earned applause when substituted.

Guardiola Faces Tough Second Leg

Before this match, the clubs had met 15 times in the Champions League. Results were evenly balanced between wins, draws and defeats.

Now, the situation has changed dramatically.

Pep Guardiola must inspire one of the greatest comebacks of his managerial career. Otherwise, City’s European campaign could end early.

Nevertheless, City will take hope from the chances they created.

The second leg promises another intense battle.
