Kano APC Welfare Secretary Bashir Maisango Resigns, Joins ADC Wave

By Elizabeth Ugbo

The All Progressives Congress in Kano lost its Welfare Secretary, Bashir Tijjani Maisango, on April 1, 2026, in Kano State, after he resigned to join the African Democratic Congress, citing political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Maisango Confirms Exit in Official Letter

Maisango announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the Kano APC chairman. He titled it “Voluntary Resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC)”.

“I, Bashir Tijjani Maisango, hereby resign my membership from the APC, effective April 1, 2026,” he wrote.

He thanked the party for opportunities and wished its leadership well.

Grassroots Influence Raises Concerns

Maisango remains a strong grassroots mobiliser in Kano politics. He previously served as Assistant Secretary of the party.

His exit could weaken APC’s local structure, especially in key wards. Party insiders now worry about losing more loyal supporters.

Link to Nasiru Gawuna’s Defection

Sources linked Maisango’s move to the recent defection of Nasiru Gawuna, former Kano Deputy Governor.

Gawuna left the APC on March 30, triggering reactions within the party. Consequently, several supporters now reconsider their political alignment.

A close associate confirmed Maisango acted in solidarity with Gawuna.

ADC Gains Momentum Ahead of 2027

Meanwhile, the ADC continues to attract prominent politicians nationwide. Maisango plans to register with the party in his Dakata Ward.

This move strengthens ADC’s position as a growing opposition force in Kano.

APC Faces Internal Pressure

APC leaders in Kano now confront rising internal discontent. The party must address shifting loyalties quickly.

Otherwise, more defections could reshape the political landscape before 2027.
