Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Tuesday, April 7, in Abuja, said Nigeria must strengthen its security agencies during the National Police Day Grand Parade and Procession, where he represented President Bola Tinubu and outlined plans to improve police capacity.
Government Plans Major Police Reforms
Shettima announced that the administration will increase investment in police training and intelligence systems. He explained that the goal is to build a modern and effective Nigeria Police Force.
Moreover, he said the government will introduce advanced law enforcement technologies. These efforts aim to improve crime detection and response.
Focus on Training, Equipment, and Welfare
The Vice President emphasized that the government will prioritize capacity development. He highlighted the need for better equipment and improved welfare for officers.
In addition, he noted that proper training will help officers tackle complex security challenges. He assured Nigerians that the reforms will remain consistent and well-funded.
Security as the Foundation of National Progress
Shettima stressed that no country can grow without a secure environment. He described security as the foundation for economic and social development.
Furthermore, he stated that the government has a moral duty to support those who protect citizens. According to him, national peace depends on the strength of security personnel.
Recognising Police Sacrifice
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by police officers across the country. However, he noted that society often overlooks their efforts.
He urged Nigerians not to take their commitment for granted. He added that national safety depends on those who remain vigilant.
Commitment to a World-Class Police Force
Shettima reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a world-class police institution. He said the government will ensure officers remain well-trained, equipped, and motivated.
Consequently, he expressed confidence that these reforms will improve national security.
